  Squamae appressed, solitary or contiguous, rounded to deeply lobate, pale to dark brown, slightly reddish when wetted, 1–6 (–8) mm wide, 0.13–0.4 mm thick, at first plane, becoming concave, rarely convex; margins dark brown to black, usually thickened and slightly upturned; lower cortex medium brown to brown-black, 20–30 (–50) µm thick, anchored by concolorous, 0.1–0.2 (–0.3) mm thick rhizines. Perithecia immersed, 2–20 per squama; apex plane to convex, brown-black to black, 0.1–0.25 (–0.35) mm diam.; ostiole slightly depressed. Exciple 25–45 µm thick, brown-black. Centrum 0.25–0.45 mm wide. Periphyses 40–70 µm long. Asci 1-spored. Ascospores ellipsoidal to elongate-ellipsoidal, yellow-brown to medium brown, 47–112 × 21–32 µm.
  Known from soil in south-western W.A., S.A., central and western N.S.W., Vic. and Tas.; also in southern France and New Zealand.
