‘Creating an Environmentally Friendly Economy’ lunchtime talk, 12.30 – 1.30pm with Lindy Edwards, Research School of Social Sciences, ANU, and Geoff Robertson, Executive member of the Conservation Council for the South East Region and the ACT. Lindy will speak about the economy as a culturally created system and how we can change it. Geoff will speak about ways to bring the economic, social and environmental realms together. Gold coin donation for Conservation Council of the South East’s climate change program. Group of up to 85. Venue: Lecture Theatre.

The speakers

Dr Lindy Edwards is a political science researcher at the Australian National University. She has worked as an economic adviser in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, as senior economic adviser to Natasha Stott-Despoja when she was the Leader of the Australian Democrats, and as a press gallery journalist for The Sydney Morning Herald. Her first book, How to Argue with an Economist: Re-opening Political Debate in Australia was a popular best seller and is widely used in university courses around Australia.

Geoff Robertson is an economic and social scientist, who has worked both in Australia and abroad, an enthusiastic amateur ecologist (familiar with the flora and fauna in the region) and an active advocate for the environment, particularly through Friends of Grasslands and the Conservation Council of the South East Region and the ACT.
