EarthWorks offers a unique opportunity to take a deep breath and re-examine our connection with the living earth and empower us to take creative and compassionate action for the world.
Itcombines teachings in deep ecology, interconnectedness, and social change theory with experiential exercises based on Joanna Macy’s work in social and ecological spirituality. The result is a stimulating, interactive and thought provoking workshop which enables participants to experience social and environmental inter-connectedness. This powerful combination provides the support, nourishment and resources to enable individuals to take positive steps for change, both in their personal lives and in their work for the world.

Earthworks usually runs on the Buddhist principle of ‘dana’ or donation for teachings above and beyond any costs. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a hat/sunscreen, water, a journal/ paper, pen, and a cut lunch.

Claire Dunn has been working towards environmental change for almost a decade, within small grassroots groups and large organisations. She has coordinated a range of successful campaigns for The Wilderness Society over the last 5 years in her role as Campaign Coordinator of the Newcastle Branch. Claire has a Bachelor of Media and Communications from Macquarie University.
Emma Pittaway has an extensive background working for community organisations, from grassroots volunteer collectives to international human rights advocacy networks. She currently works in the refugee sector as a trainer, evaluation consultant and community development worker, and is undertaking a Masters in Community Development & Environmental Sustainability at UNSW. She has been practicing Buddhism for 6 years and draws on the strengths of meditation to lead this work.
Emma and Claire have both trained with and draw on the work of Joanna Macy ( www.joannamacy.net).
