Planning for the futureThe Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) is a scientific and educational institution which manages Australia’s largest living collection of native plants. As the Gardens approaches its 40 th birthday in October 2010, there has been a flurry of evaluation and planning processes to guide the preparation of its new ten year management plan. This management plan is being prepared with significant consultation from key stakeholders, including government and private organisations, community groups and the general community. In addition to a series of interviews and discussion groups across the nation, submissions were also received in a formal consultation ‘Have Your Say’ process in 2009. Our management planning newsletter includes articles on the planning and consultation process and highlights some of the interesting findings from our conversations with stakeholders. Importantly, we must ensure that the ANBG continues to be relevant and therefore, we would like the new plan for our national botanic garden to reflect the changing needs of Australian society and the new challenges we face in managing Australia’s rich biological diversity. It is anticipated that a draft of this plan will be released for public comment in early 2010.
