ANAT Synapse Art and Science Residency Program

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FROM AUSTRALIAN NEW MEDIA ARTISTS

The Australian Network for Art and Technology (ANAT) is calling for proposals from Australian new media artists interested in working collaboratively in residence with one of the following host science organisations:

These residencies are part of the Synapse Art and Science Residency Program which aims to build new creative partnerships between scientists and artists, science institutions and arts organisations.

It is envisaged that these residencies will provide the opportunity for artists to work with key areas of ongoing research and science expertise whilst contributing to the creative needs of the science organisation. This two-way process and desired outcomes of the residency will be developed in consultation with the science organisation, ANAT and the individual artist on selection of the successful projects.

These residencies are being managed by ANAT and are part of the Australia Council New Media Arts Board's Synapse Art and Science Initiative. The Synapse Art and Science Residency Program supports professional development and research opportunities for Australian new media artists.

These residencies are available for Australian artists with experience in new media arts practice and an interest in science. Artists from any state or territory of Australia are welcome to apply.

ANAT will provide the artists with a weekly artist fee, an allowance towards accommodation and return travel to the destination of the residency. The science organisation will provide the artist with access to personnel, equipment, space, resources, and some costs towards materials.

It is envisaged that the residency will take place between JULY 2004 and JUNE 2005. The duration of the residencies at CSIRO Marine Research and E-World Lab are twelve full-time weeks. The duration of the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research residency is sixteen full-time weeks.

Artists should contact ANAT for guidelines. Guidelines are available for each residency and prospective applicants should indicate which residency they wish to apply for. Applicants are free to apply for more than one residency..

The DEADLINE for proposals from artists is 5pm, FRIDAY APRIL 23, 2004.
