Identifying plants of grassy ecosystems of the ACT region - a field-based course

22 & 23 November 2007

Canberra: Australian National Botanic Gardens & an ACT conservation reserve

Objectives:
- To improve skills in identifying plants of the ACT region
- To learn to recognise species which indicate quality or conservation value of the site.

Course outline:
The course was mostly field-based:
- Day 1: for beginners and those less experienced
- Day 2: for those with more experience.

People could register for one or both days. Both days started with an introductory session in the ANBG Theatrette before going to the field site.

Skilled tutors guided participants through practical identification techniques. Participants worked in small groups and moved between habitats and tutors during the day. Most participants were from the local region, but others came from Sydney, Orange, Wagga Wagga, Forbes and Brisbane

Course fee
Including catering, transport, information pack, hand-lens & GST:
$110 per day or $100 for financial members of the ANPC.
Concessions were available for the non-employed and full-time students and pensioners.
