Identifying plants of grassy ecosystems

 

Canberra, Thursday 22 & Friday 23 November 2007

 

Program outline

 

  •           Day 1 - Thursday 22 November: for beginners and those less experienced;

  •           Day 2 - Friday 23 November: for those with more experience, including some from day 1.

                                                Participants could register for one day or both days.

 

 

Day 1

8.30-8.50 am   Registration in the ANBG Theatrette foyer (opposite Visitor Information Centre)

 

9.00 am           Introduction to plant identification techniques, particularly those used in the field. An introduction to useful keys and resources. Probably three sessions presented by different specialists; 30 mins each including time for questions

 

10.30 am         Morning tea in the Dickson Room

 

11.00 am         Board the bus to go to field site

                   Course participants will work in groups of about 8 per tutor. We will move between habitats and tutors during the day to increase exposure to different habitats, plant groups and tutor styles, techniques and skills.

  •           Lunch and afternoon tea will be provided at the field site

  •           Portaloos will be available at the site

4.30 pm          Depart field site; return to ANBG.

 

 

Day 2:

8.30-8.50 am  Registration in the ANBG Theatrette foyer (opposite Visitor Information Centre)

 

9.00 am          Board the bus to go to field site. As for day 1.

  •           Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided at the field site

  •           Portaloos will be available at the site

4.30 pm          Depart field site; return to ANBG.

 

 

Bring with you: water bottle, note-book and pencil, camera, binoculars, sunscreen. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes, including a hat. You may wish to bring a small fold-up stool or mat to sit on.

 

Resources: All participants will receive a 10x hand-lens and relevant Plant ID notes as well as a list of recommended resources.
