From the Ground Up: a workshop on the conservation and rehabilitation of grassy ecosystems of the ACT and region.

28-29 November 2006, Canberra, ACT.

Evaluation analysis

56.5% of the 69 participants completed and returned their evaluation forms. Analysis of the responses revealed a very high level of satisfaction with all components of the workshop. This analysis is summarised graphically below.

In summary:

-          Workshop structure (4 questions combined):
88% of respondents reported high satisfaction (48% ‘strongly agree’ and 40% ‘agree’)

-          Workshop content (by session; 11 questions combined):
83% of respondents reported high satisfaction (42% ‘strongly agree’ and 41% ‘agree’)

-          Field activities (3 questions combined):
81% of respondents reported high satisfaction (37% ‘strongly agree’ and 44% ‘agree’)

-          Will the workshop have ongoing benefits? (5 questions combined):
87% of respondents reported a high positive response (46% ‘strongly agree’ and 41% ‘agree’).

Groups or organisations

The evaluation form also sought information on the respondent’s group or organisation. The last graph below shows that the respondents were from:

-          12% Commonwealth Government

-          12% State Government

-          2% Educator or researcher

-          5% Environmental consultant

-          20% Landcare group

-          24% other community group

-          20% Landholder

-          5% other

From the above, 64% of respondents (community groups and landholders, high-lit in above) work voluntarily in the conservation management of grassy ecosystems. This reinforces the value and high degree of commitment of volunteer workers. This group was a key focus group for the project.

Comments and suggestions were also sought. One landholder commented:

This workshop has been invaluable to me as a landholder and non-scientist. Very good communication of complex ideas. Will help me to understand my property and to work systematically towards a management plan. Thanks.
