Batianoff, George Nicholas (1945 - )Born at Kuldja, Sinkiang province of China on 24th April 1945.
Migrated with his Russian mother and two sisters, arriving in Australia in November 1959. George was naturalised as an Australian subject in 1963. From 1966 to 1974. He was employed by the Agrostology Section of the Department of Primary Industries and worked in Charleville, Ipswich, and the Brigalow Research Station near Theodore.
Because of his interest in ecology, and support from Selwyn Everist, he joined the staff of the Queensland Herbarium in 1974. George has published many papers dealing mainly with coastal flora and vegetation. His plant collecting activities include 9 000 collections extending front northern New South Wales to Lizard Island. In 1988 he was studying the flora and vegetation of Keppel Bay and the Cumberland group of islands.
