Benson, Douglas Howard (1949 - )

Born in Sydney, NSW, 3 June 1949.

His honours degree is from the University of Sydney. He joined the Botanic Gardens as a trainee in 1971 but moved to the Herbarium staff in 1972. Then to the position of plant Ecologist.

When publishing Eucalyptus bensonii L. Johnson & K. Hill (1990) the authors wrote:

'The specific epithet honours Douglas Howard Benson, Ecologist with the National Herbarium of New South Wales, who drew attention to this taxon during a vegetation mapping program in the area in which it occurs'.
