A nephew of William Macarthur, Bowman collected widely in central-eastern Queensland in the 1860s and 1870s, sending his specimens to F.Mueller. Many of his collecting localities are obscure or ambiguous; many were resolved by Blake (1954). Bowman's collections are now in MEL.
