Born Barnard Castle, Durham, England, 7 Dec. 1835; died Gordon, Sydney, 7 Apr. 1917.
Methodist missionary. To NZ 1855. Lived variously in NZ, Samoa, New Britain, but visited other islands, New Guinea etc., & Australia as Secretary Foreign Missionary Soc. 1887-1908, incl. Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane.

Wrote autobiography: George Brown, D.D.: Pioneer Missionary and Explorer, Hodder & Stoughton, London (1908);
