Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria
Dale was born in Derbyshire, England. As an ensign of the 63rd Regiment, he arrived in Western Australia in 1829. He led nine expeditions in various parts of the colony, including the first expedition over the Darling Range, and was a member of many more.
Dale's drawing of King George Sound was made into an engraving by Robert Havell and published in 1834.
Dale returned to England in 1833 to become a timber merchant, promoting the use of Western Australian jarrah in shipbuilding. He died of tuberculosis.
