Initiator (with Martius) of Flora Brasiliensis, and author of a number of works describing Australian plants, of which the most notable are probably Prodromus Florae Norfolkicae (1833), Genera Plantarum (18361840), Enumeratio Plantarum... Hügel (1837), Stirpium Australasicum... Hügeliani (1838) and Enchiridion Botanicum (1841). His Types and main collection are at W with other specimens at P.
