The diversity of Australian native plant species and the range of habitats provide food and shelter for a greater variety and larger numbers of birds than might otherwise be expected in Canberra.
Ornithologists from the Australian National University have long term research programs involving serveral of the species in the gardens. Summaries or their research programs will be placed on this WWW server in the future.
The Canbrerra Ornithologists Group (COG) conducts regular surveys of birds in the Gardens and holds guided bird-watching tours of the site from time to time.
