Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria
An Australian reference book on the history and sources of information especially relevant to the study of plants in Australia, including its offshore territories. It also contains biographical entries for some 2600 names of people who collected plant specimens between 1699 and 1900. Finally there is a list, with concise details, of all ships that carried natural history collectors and passed through Australian waters.
671 pages, casebound.
Australian Botanist's Companion has been used extensively to enhance the 'Collectors & Illustrators' website managed by the Australian National Herbarium on behalf of the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria.
Entries derived from this book are marked ^^ and the book should be consulted for the source references.
Alex George marked up the price only a little more than enough to cover the costs of printing and binding, and since he doesn't offer it at a trade price, bookshops (understandably) aren't very interested.
He sell it from home. The price posted within Australia is $90.00 incl. GST (as at 2010).
