Leaflet length (longest leaflet)

The length (in millimetres) of the leaflets (i.e. the leaflet lamina of fully expanded leaves, measured from leaflet base to leaflet tip and excluding the petiolule and any extensions of the venation) of compound leaves. Many taxa show considerable variability in leaflet size within leaves (such as in Desmodium the terminal leaflet is often much larger than the laterals) and measurements should be based upon the longest leaflet per leaf. Where possible, a value should be determined from several measurements of longest leaflets such that an average value or range (e.g. shortest to longest) may be entered.
