TYPE:   "Habitat in Aegypto. D. Hasselquist." [given by Zohary, Candollea 27 (1972) 252 as "Hb. Linn. 930/49. Described from Egypt."].
COMMENT:   Not known when first naturalised, but see P.M.Kloot, J. Adelaide Bot. Gard. 10 (1987) 237 with reference to use as pasture plant in 1911.
