This resource is a compilation of taxonomic keys and descriptions for the ferns and fern allies. In addition to keys to the families of Australian ferns and ferns allies and of Papuasian ferns and fern allies, keys to genera are available for the following families.

The descriptions, taxonomy and literature is based on work done over twelve years ago for Papuasian pteridophytes and needs updating in many cases; this will be done over time.

    The following compilation of descriptions of genera of ferns and fern allies has been derived from a variety of sources as a working resource to assist with identification of these plants. The geographic focus is Australia and its island territories, Papuasia and the islands of the southwest Pacific. It is a work in progress and as such is subject to erratic and unannounced change as the results of new publications and research are incorporated.
