Flat-bed Scanner Images

The images shown here have all been obtained by using a flat-bed scanner and constitiute our first real experiments with the technique. The plants are all Australian natives.

A variety of specimens have been used - both dried herbarium sheets and fresh material - to see what kinds of results are possible. For example, the Calothamnus blepharospermus is a dried and mounted herbarium specimen and the fruits imaged here are some 2cm thick. The Cheiranthera cyanea is dried, unmounted and only a few mm thick. The Passiflora cinnabarina is an example of scanned fresh material.

Having been scanned in, the resulting image files were modified using PhotoShop software. Modifying basically consisted of brightening, sharpening and reducing the size of the images.
