Porina africana Müll.Arg.
  Linnaea 63: 41 (1880). T: Quillu, Angola, E.Pechuel-Loesche 300; holo: G. Porina platystoma Müll.Arg., Bull. Herb. Boissier 3: 326 (1895). T: Vic., 1887, C.Knight 332; holo: G.  
  Thallus epiphloeodal, continuous to rimose, often peeling from the substratum, pale sandy brown to pale greyish green, matt to slightly glossy, smooth to uneven, 40–100 µm thick; basal layer brown-black, 20–40 µm thick; prothallus blackish or not apparent. Algae Trentepohlia; cells 6–12 × 6–10 µm. Perithecial verrucae hemispherical to subglobose, 0.58–1 mm diam.; wall containing a layer of colourless crystals; ostiole inconspicuous or in a 80–150 µm wide depression; periostiolar area black, 0.15–0.65 mm diam. Involucrellum apical to dimidiate, pale to medium orange-brown. Exciple 20–25 µm thick, pale brown. Centrum 0.3–0.42 mm wide. Asci elongate-cylindrical, c. 120 × 20 µm. Ascospores elongate-fusiform, (5–) 7 (–9)-septate, 36–56 × 4–6.5 µm; perispore not apparent. Pycnidia not seen.
  Known in Australia from Qld, Vic. and Christmas Is.; also known from a few collections from southern Africa and Central and South America.
