Callistemon 'Pink Sensation'
An open small tree to 3m high by 1.5m across in 4 years. The
bark is soft, grey and fissured, splitting to reveal papery bark beneath.
The leaves are narrowly elliptical to 60mm long by 5mm wide. The new growth
is light yellow green. The deep pink flowers are borne in very crowded
spikes to 80mm long by 45mm diameter. The anthers are yellow. Flowers are
seen in spring, summer and autumn and the spring flowers tend to be longer
than those borne at other times.
Diagnosis:
Differs from C. 'Glasshouse Gem' in having:
* light yellow green new growth
* more crowded flower spikes
* darker pink flowers
Differs from C. 'Glasshouse Country' and C. 'Glasshouse Beauty' in having:
* larger flowers
* darker pink flowers
Callistemon salignus 'Perth Pink'
A tall open shrub to 4m tall. Leaves are lanceolate to 80mm
long. The deep pink flowers are borne in clusters at the ends of the
branches in spring and it may flower sporadically at other times of the
year.
Diagnosis:
Callistemon 'Perth Pink' is much bushier than C. salignus.
Callistemon 'Hannah's Child'
Shrub 1.5 x 4m high. Produces scarlet flowers (9 to 12cm x 6
to 8 cm) from March to may and again in October/November. Young specimens
are similar to Callistemon 'Hannah Ray', mature specimens are more like
Callistemon 'Kings Park Special'. Its main distinguishing feature is its
ability to flower at a much earlier age than either parent, and is very
floriferous. New growth is pale yellow/green and covered with silky hairs.
Mature leaves become glaucous.
Diagnosis:
Differs from both parents in its ability to flower when very
young (less than 12 months, 140mm pots). Denser flowers than 'Hannah Ray'.
Only 2/3 rds height of 'Hannah Ray'.
Callistemon 'Tin-Sal Glow'
Fairly open habit, 1.5 m wide by 3-5 m tall, many-stemmed with
a swollen base. Bark light grey, fissured. New growth pink. Spike
moderately open, c. 3.5 cm wide; axis hairy at first. Leaves narrowly
linear to oblanceolate, (3.0-) 3.5-5.5 cm long, c.0.32-0.77 cm wide,
margins slightly recurved (on herbarium specimens at least); reticulate
venation clearly visible. Stamens c. 4.8-5.4 cm, c. 1.5-2.1 cm long,
pinkish at the tips, almost white at the base. Anthers yellow. Fruit is
barrel-shaped ca 0.38-0.45 cm wide, ca 0.4 cm high, aperture not
constricted, surface smooth. Flowering time spring to autumn.
Diagnosis:
Characterised by the 'glowing' appearance of the new growth and
flower spikes (produced by the pale stamen bases). Its characteristics
compared to other forms are summarised in the following table:
C. 'Glasshouse Country'
