Location:

• Grassy areas, Aranda bushland (FOAB, 1997)
• Widespread, ranging from the Mallee to coastal heaths and open drier forest-lands [in Vic] (Oates & Seeman, 1979:19).
• Common in natural pastures, often persistent in gardens (Burbidge & Gray, 1976:304)

Use:

• Food, medicine
• Roots cooked in baskets and kneaded into a dough (Dawson in Gott, 1995)
• A decoction was used for diarrhoea and indigestion (Gott, 1995)

Notes:

• Woody taproot probably available all year (Gott, 1995)
• Formed one of the principal vegetable foods in winter when the Yam-daisy was out of season. (Oates & Seeman, 1979:19)
