Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria |
Pearson, Su (fl.1990s - 2000s)She has been interested in botanical art since her schooldays.
She has
also had long experience as a gardener, and in her town and country gardens has
grown a wide variety of native and exotic plants, with a particular interest in
bulbs and old roses. She has visited gardens and galleries throughout Europe and
the UK, and more recently in India, where she has been studying indigenous flora
and Mughal miniatures.
When undertaking a Diploma of Design in Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT Su
had the opportunity to venture into watercolour paintings of plants. Her training
in gold and silversmithing has helped her to develop a good eye for design and a
meticulous attention to detail - valuable attributes for a botanical artist.
She has
followed up her interest in botanical art by attending classes given by Anita
Barley and Jenny Phillips.
Su assisted Roger Spencer with his
Horticultural Flora of South-eastern Australia from 1993 to 2003, and completed
more than 600 illustrations for Volume 2 with a similar number in Volume 3.
