Introduction and organization

A mini-symposium involving stakeholders of the Malesian flora is being run as part of the 5th International Flora Malesiana Symposium in Sydney, O9 - 14 September 2001.

This mini-symposium will involve stakeholders of Flora Malesiana and Malesian plant systematics in general, including actual and potential users of taxonomic and related information and those who actually or potentially fund production and dissemination of such information. Participants include those involved at the global level, such as the World Bank, through to more specific interests and users of taxonomic data, e.g. PROSEA. The session will attempt to stimulate discussion and encourage the plant systematics community to consider a more user-oriented approach and partnership strategies, in both our research and the seeking of funds to support the critical underlying taxonomy.

The Stakeholder mini-symposium will be programmed to fit in with and be a part of the the main Flora Malesiana Symposium. It will be held on the opening day of the meeting.

Tentative program

The following tentative program is based on preliminary indications from the people concerned. Understandably attendance and titles are not final yet, and other committments and funding problems may prevent some people from attending. Nevertheless we will attempt to keep this web version of the program as up to date as possible. Any changes to the program and the attendee list will be made on this web version first before being printed and distributed by other means.
