Leptospermum lanigerum family MYRTACEAE
Very variable shrub or tree. At least three forms are known:
- Large, spreading or erect shrub, sometimes pendulous, to 3 m
high by 3 m across. Leaves oblong, grey-green, to 2 cm long,
usually hairy. Flowers are white and appear in early summer.
Capsule is hairy when young.
- Columnar shrub, very compact, to 3 m high by 1 m wide. Leaves
are dull grey-green, to 1 cm. Flowers and capsules as for (1).
- From mountain areas of Tas, a slender tree to 18 m. Flowers
and capsules as for (1).
Distribution: NSW, ACT, Vic, Tas, SA.
Propagation From seed or cuttings.
Cultivation See note on
genus. Very hardy shrub. Some forms have very silvery foliage.
Columnar form has most potential. May be incorporated into a formal
garden very readily. The normal form (1) is a useful screen plant.

- Suitable for heavy shade.
- Frost-hardy. (Plants given an this rating will tolerate frosts
to -7°C in conditions of normal rainfall.)
- Recommended for their foliage.
- Suitable hedge or screen plants.
Form 2
- Suitable for heavy shade.
- Frost-hardy. (Plants given an this rating will tolerate frosts
to -7°C in conditions of normal rainfall.)
- May be used as features.
Form 3
- Frost-hardy. (Plants given an this rating will tolerate frosts
to -7°C in conditions of normal rainfall.)
