Inquiry based learning programs have been designed by Education services to engage students in a hands on, safe and valuable learning experience.
Each Education Program:

is designed to support teachers in achieving the Australian Curriculum – Science standards
is led by an Australian National Botanic Gardens education explainer
is able to be adapted to suit school needs.

Civics and Citizenship

Education programs offered by the Australian National Botanic Gardens has a close connection with civics and citizenship curriculum. Our programs focus on Australia’s natural heritage and encourages the next generation of environmentally aware citizens.

Visitor Code

To protect our special collection the following are not permitted within the Gardens: pets, ball games, frisbees, kites, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, BBQs and fires.

Bookings

Please make all bookings two weeks in advance, including DIY explorer groups. This enables our Education Officers to:

avoid congestion on paths
make contact with teachers and students if necessary
facilitate emergency evacuation if required

Emergency evacuation procedures

Fire Wardens are distinguished by their White (Chief Warden) and Red hats. Rangers wear a recognisable uniform. All Education staff are trained in evacuation procedures should an emergency occur. Please follow their instructions.
The following is the policy for emergency evacuation:

Fire in the grounds
In the event that the Chief Fire Warden, Police or ACT Fire Services will order an evacuation of the grounds, visitors and staff will evacuate through the front gate wherever possible.
Fire in the education buildings
On the sound of an alarm, or instruction from a Fire Warden alert others. Evacuate all visitors from building. Direct them to proceed to assembly area on the lawns in front of Hudsons Café. Fire wardens will provide further instructions.
Night time
Staff are equipped with a radio in each group, and access to a mobile telephone. They will communicate an emergency to all groups, call emergency services, open the gates and direct their groups to your coach.
In the event that strong winds or storms are likely to lead to falling branches or trees some areas of the Gardens may be closed. All Emergencies – Report to a staff member. The Visitor Centre can be contacted on 6250 9540
