  Pseudopodetia in pulvinate clumps to 0.5 m wide, or in occasional scattered clusters 3–4 cm wide, to 5 cm high, white to pale grey, sometimes yellowing at tips of branches, sometimes upper portions or tips blackening. Sterile pseudopodetia robust, to 8 mm wide, dichotomous or irregularly branched; fenestrations round to ellipsoidal. Fertile pseudopodetia similar. Inner-medulla stranded throughout central portion of pseudopodetium, sometimes becoming corticate, sometimes containing scattered algal colonies. Apothecia to 0.14 mm wide; disc convex, dark reddish brown to black; exciple thin, disappearing at maturity. Ascospores 11–14 × 3–4.5 µm, unicellular, tapering towards each end, sometimes slightly curved. Pycnidia sessile, ellipsoidal, 180 × 150 µm, brownish black to black. Conidia rod-shaped, 6 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: thallus K- or K+ yellow, C-, KC- or KC+ orange, P-. Usnic, protolichesterinic, ursolic, rangiformic and norrangiformic acids, atranorin, unknown triterpenes and four unidentified substances.
     
  Occurs in Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas.; also in New Zealand and New Caledonia.
