Parmotrema recipiendum (Nyl.) Hale

  Thallus loosely adnate, coriaceous, to 5–12 cm wide. Lobes rotund, 7–15 mm wide; margins crenate; cilia moderately dense to dense at apices, often branched, 1–3 mm long. Upper surface pale grey to grey, flat, shiny, strongly white-maculate, lacking soredia and isidia. Lower surface brown, often blackening near centre; lobe margins brown; short rhizines dense to lobe margins, simple, 0.2–0.5 mm long; long rhizines coarse, 1.5–3.5 mm long. Apothecia common, pedicellate, 10–30 mm wide; disc perforate, dark brown to black-brown; thalline exciple rugose, white-maculate. Ascospores 12–19 × 6–10 µm. Pycnidia abundant. Conidia filiform, 10–13 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin and norlobaridone.
  A common species on bark in drier hinterland areas of Australia (N.S.W.); also occurs in South America.
