Xanthoparmelia maccarthyi Elix
     
  Mycotaxon 65: 488 (1997). T: Queensland. Carnarvon National Park, track to Baloon Cave, 91 km NNW of Injune, 25°04'S, 148°15'E, 460 m, on large sandstone outcrops in Eucalyptus woodland, J. A. Elix 34112, 19.viii.1993;  holo: CANB.  
     
  Thallus small-foliose to subcrustose, saxicolous, tightly adnate, 3-10 cm wide.  Lobes congested, subirregular to sublinear, irregularly branched, 0.3-0.7 mm wide.  Upper surface  yellow-green, darkening with age, flat or weakly convex, emaculate, commonly areolate towards thallus centre, lacking soredia; isidia globose then cylindrical, simple, to 0.2 mm high, with apices syncorticate, darkening and inflated but not erumpent.  Medulla white.  Lower surface flat, pale brown to dark brown; rhizines sparse, simple, concolorous.  Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. Cortex K-; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing usnic acid (major), hypoprotocetraric acid (major), scabrosin 4,4'-dibutyrate (minor).
