  Basal squamules persistent, conspicuous, 3–6 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., incised, esorediate; lower surface becoming yellow to yellow-brown in older parts. Podetia growing from squamules, 1–2.5 cm tall, 1–3 mm diam., with short (2–4 mm) proliferations bearing apothecia, simple or scyphiferous or with deformed scyphi, esorediate, with warted to scaly cortex, becoming ecorticate and squamulose, green or greyish green. Apothecia common, conspicuous, 1–3 mm diam., rarely to 5 mm, red. CHEMISTRY: K+ yellow, KC-, P+ yellow. Thamnolic acid (major), ±skyrin (rhodophyscin) (major).
     
  Occurs in N.S.W. and Tas.; also in New Zealand; grows on moist soil or dead wood in semi-shaded positions.
