Hypogymnia subphysodes var. austerodioides Elix
  Brunonia 2: 230 (1980). T: Forest Range road, 4 km W of Carey Gully, Mt Lofty Ranges, S.A., 21 Dec. 1976, J.A.Elix 2836; holo: MEL.  
  As var. subphysodes, but lobes 2–4 mm wide, irregularly divided, crowded and subcontiguous, placodiform at margins).
  Relatively common in temperate forests of W.A., S.A. and N.S.W., A.C.T., rarer in Vic. and Tas.; grows on dead wood and bark. Also in New Zealand.
