Pseudocyphellaria stenophylla (Müll.Arg.) D.J.Galloway

  Thallus irregularly spreading, often rather sparse, loosely to closely attached centrally, 2–4 (–6) cm wide. Lobes irregularly linear-laciniate, 2–8 (–15) mm long, 0.1–0.5 (–1.5) mm wide, subdichotomously to irregularly branched, plane to canaliculate, ±free at apices, tangled centrally, fragile, rather brittle when dry; lobe margins entire, slightly thickened above. Upper surface pale green-grey to olive-buff when dry, bright lettuce-green when wet; without isidia, maculae, phyllidia, pseudocyphellae or soredia. Medulla white. Photobiont green. Lower surface pale whitish buff and glabrous at margins, pale yellow-brown to red-brown and minutely tomentose centrally, with a slightly raised narrow midrib in older parts. Pseudocyphellae punctiform, to 0.1 mm diam., rather sparse, scattered, white. Apothecia not seen. CHEMISTRY: 7β-acetoxyhopane-22-ol, hopane-7β,22-diol (trace), hopane-15α,22-diol and gyrophoric acid.
     
  Occurs on trees, shrubs and rocks in montane rainforest in north-eastern Qld. Also in New Caledonia.
