  Thallus loosely adnate to adnate, membranaceous, to 5–10 cm wide. Lobes rotund, 10–15 mm wide; margins crenate; cilia sparse, simple or rarely branched, 0.5–2 mm long. Upper surface grey to grey-green, flat, shiny, distinctly white-maculate, lacking soredia; isidia moderately dense to dense, simple, cylindrical to branched, rarely with ciliate apices. Lower surface uniformly pale brown, rarely darkening at centre; lobe margins erhizinate, narrow, brown; short rhizines dense, simple, 0.1–0.3 mm long; long rhizines coarse, grouped, 1–1.5 mm long. Apothecia rare, subpedicellate, 5–8 mm wide; disc imperforate, brown to dark brown; thalline exciple isidiate. Ascospores 8–11 × 5–8 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, norlobaridone (major) and loxodin.
     
  Scattered on bark of trees in temperate forests of eastern Australia (N.S.W. and A.C.T.); also known from North, Central and South America.
