Xanthoparmelia orchardii Elix
     
  Mycotaxon 63: 427 (1997). T: Queensland. Pine Mountain, 24 km NE of Rockhampton, 23°11'S, 150°37'E, 240 m, on volcanic rocks in monsoon forest with emergent Araucaria cunninghamii, J. A. Elix 34723, 26 Aug. 1993;  holo: CANB.  
     
  Thallus small-foliose to subcrustose, saxicolous, tightly adnate, 2-7 cm wide.  Lobes congested, subirregular to sublinear-elongate, subdichotomously branched, 0.3-0.7(-1.0) mm wide.  Upper surface  yellow-green, darkening with age, flat, emaculate, commonly areolate towards thallus centre, lacking soredia; isidia cylindrical, simple or commonly branched, to 1.0 mm high, ±forming a dense mat in the thallus centre; isidia apices epicorticate, inflated but rarely erumpent, not sorediose.  Medulla white.  Lower surface flat, pale brown to dark brown; rhizines sparse, simple, concolorous.  Apothecia rare, sessile, 1-2 mm in wide; disc concave, dark brown; thalline exciple densely isidiate.  Ascospores ellipsoidal, 7-9 x 4-5 µm.  Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Cortex K-; medulla K-, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing usnic acid (major), norlobaridone (major), loxodin (minor).
     
  X. orchardii appears to be confined to central and northern Qld.
