Strigula bermudana (Tuck. ex Nyl.) R.C.Harris
  Some Florida Lichens 155 (1995). T: Bermuda. 1881, W.G.Farlow 31; holo: H-NYL 985!; iso: FH!
Thallus crustose, endolithic, continuous, greenish white, pale grey or pale grey-green. Algae Trentepohlia. Prothallus not apparent. Perithecia numerous, usually solitary, semi-immersed to almost superficial, hemispherical to subglobose or apically slightly conical, dull black, (0.21–) 0.3 (–0.42) mm diam.; surface smooth to uneven. Perithecial apex rounded to somewhat pointed; ostiole usually inconspicuous or in a shallow depression. Involucrellum dimidiate or extending to excipulum-base level, contiguous with the excipulum or diverging slightly near the base, 40–70 µm thick. Excipulum medium brown to brownish black, 18–28 µm thick. Centrum globose to depressed-ovate, 0.2–0.24 mm wide. Subhymenium 15–20 µm deep. Paraphyses simple to sparingly branched, or with a few anastomoses near their tips, 1–2 µm thick. Periphyses absent. Asci elongate-cylindrical, 60–91 × 5–9 µm; apex rounded, with a 0.5–2 µm wide and 1–2 µm tall, hemispherical to tuberculate ocular chamber. Ascospores 8 per ascus, hyaline, fusiform to clavate, 1-septate, uniseriate or overlapping, (9.5–) 12.5 (–14.5) × (3–) 4 (–5) µm. Conidiomata (not seen in Christmas Is. specimens) semi-immersed, 130–180 µm diam., black above, dark brown to black below. Macroconidia 1 (–3)-septate, cylindrical, 9.5–14.5 × 2.5–3.5 µm; apices occasionally with c. 1 µm long and wide gelatinous appendages. Microconidia were reported as elliptical to narrowly elliptical and 2.5–4 × 1.2–2 µm by Harris (1975).
On limestone outcrops in primary forest and in more open, disturbed sites in Christmas Is.; alson in the Caribbean.
