Lepraria dibenzofuranica Elix

  Thallus crustose, leprose, whitish green to greenish or bluish grey, forming extensive irregularly spreading patches to 30 cm wide, or in small irregularly roundish colonies 5–10 mm wide which eventually coalesce, thin or up to 250 μm thick. Margin usually delimited but lacking well-defined lobes. Soredia dispersed or forming a thick continuous layer, fine, ±globose, 20–50 μm wide, commonly aggregated in round consoredia to 350 μm wide, with or without short projecting hyphae to 20 μm long. Medulla white, patchily distinct. Hyphae 1.6–3.0 μm thick. Lower surface not apparent, without a tomentum.Photobiont cells ±spherical, 6–8 (–10) μm diam. Hypothallus not apparent.
CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, P–, UV–; containing atranorin (major), rangiformic or jackinic acid (major), usnic acid (minor or trace), norrangiformic or norjackinic acid (minor or trace), stepsilin (minor or trace), 3,7-di-O-methylstrepsilin (minor or trace), 3-O-methylstrepsilin (trace), 7-O-methylstrepsilin (minor or trace), unknown dibenzofurans (major or minor), fragilin (minor), 7-chloroemodin (trace), flavo-obscurin C (trace).
  This endemic species occurs in W.A., N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic.; on soil and the base of shrubs in Eucalyptus forests at altitudes of 100–650 m.
